On October 4 we again celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. In so doing it is good to reflect on his life in the Middle Ages and how relevant his message is today. Francis focused his life on love of God which certainly is something we need to focus on in our world today. Francis was outstanding in his love for the poor. Our world today has turned its back on many of those who live in poverty. May Francis’ example give us strength to help those who are marginalized whenever possible.
Francis had a great love for creation. He saw nature and wildlife and natural resources as a gift that needed to be appreciated and protected. Each day brings more news about the terrible things that are happening to this wonderful gift, and we need to hope that we can work together to save our planet.
St. Francis lived a simple life – or did he? Take a minute this Friday to reflect on your life and how you can follow Francis in 2019 and beyond.
