The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities stand with the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in calling on all lawmakers to adopt reasonable gun control regulations and to address factors that contribute to the cause of mass shootings in this country, including mental health.
The tragedies in Parkland, Florida, Columbine, Sandy Hook and Chardon, Ohio, along with that in Las Vegas, Nevada make it clear to us that our mission as Franciscan women — to share the word of God and be models of compassion and social justice — is more relevant than ever. We have prayed and continue to pray for the victims, the survivors, and their families and friends. Along with raising our voices in prayer, we also recognize that it is important to raise our voices in protesting the continued inaction of those who can truly make a difference through legislation and public policy. Join us in both prayer and our pledge to advocate for the safety of all God’s people.
