Noted Iconographer Offers Icon Workshop in Millvale

The Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities welcome Peter Pearson, iconographer, who will direct an Icon Retreat from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27 through Saturday, Feb. 1 at Mount Alvernia, 146 Hawthorne Road in Millvale, Pa.

Beginners and artists at all skill levels are welcome to attend the workshop which will focus on the technical skills involved in icon painting as well as the spirituality of creating an icon. Fee is $250 and includes all materials including acrylic paints.

Pearson has been a student of iconography for 40 years. He has created hundreds of icons for private collectors, churches and institutions around the world. He offers courses, workshops and retreats to people of all ages throughout the U.S. In addition to iconography, Pearson studied architectural drafting and color at the International Institute of Design in Washington, D.C. He also studied theology, with a specialization in liturgical studies at St. John’s School of Theology in Boston; Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa., where he earned a master of divinity degree. Pearson serves as a priest in the Diocese of Bethlehem, Pa.
