2018 Report of Appreciation

Sister Amy Williams’s status as a vowed woman religious brings an extra component to her work as a hospice nurse in Pennsylvania. Along with caring for physical needs, she also ministers to the spiritual and emotional needs not only of individuals with a terminal illness and their families but to her hospice co-workers as well.

“Many people are fearful as they approach death, and they want to talk about matters of spirituality and questions about God,” Sister Amy says. “At this point, my ministry is one of presence, as I provide a listening ear and offer emotional and spiritual support.” She also finds that people are curious about religious life and she is happy to share the joy that being a Franciscan sister has brought her. “Many people I encounter are searching for a deeper relationship with God, and they are usually very open and engaged when I share my own vocational journey,” she says.
