Scientists tell us that these beautiful colored leaves that appear during the fall season are really in full color all the time because the chlorophyll that gives the leaves their green color fades away in Autumn. Then we can see the orange, yellow and red colors that were in the leaves from the beginning, emerge from the green leaves of summer.
When one considers the life of God that lives in us, one might compare it to the beautiful colored leaves. That life of God was always there, living in us which some theologians call our true self. However we can cover that life of God with a veneer of egotism that is often referred to as our false self. When one gazes at the beauty of the multicolored leaves, may we be reminded of the tremendous beauty of the life of God that runs through us.
